Vietnam, Laos pledge to deepen all-round cooperation

The Vietnamese National Assembly will closely coordinate with its Lao counterpart to promote institutional and policy improvements, creating a favourable legal framework for both governments to effectively implement high-level agreements and investment cooperation projects, as well as matters agreed upon by the two governments.

Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man made the remark during a meeting on April 16 with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone who is in Hanoi for the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit.

During the meeting, Chairman Man expressed his delight at the continued comprehensive development of Vietnam–Laos relations across all fields and voiced his desire to further enhance bilateral ties.

PM Siphandone expressed admiration for Vietnam’s impressive and comprehensive achievements, along with its increasingly enhanced stature and role on international platforms. He particularly praised Vietnam’s role in organising this year’s P4G Summit.

He affirmed to continue to direct Lao ministries and sectors to decisively implement the agreements reached during the recent meeting between the two Politburos and the 47th session of the Vietnam–Laos Intergovernmental Committee. These efforts aim to promote cooperation across all areas, including politics, foreign affairs, security, national defense, trade, investment, and transportation connectivity, with a particular focus on boosting progress in economic, cultural, educational, healthcare, and scientific-technical cooperation. He emphasised the importance of completing major cooperative projects that have been previously committed to.

Host and guest underscored the unique and unparalleled nature of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. They expressed their satisfaction with the significant outcomes achieved in bilateral relations, especially the growing political trust, fostered through regular high-level exchanges and collaborative mechanisms across various sectors. Defence and security cooperation continues to be a vital pillar of the bilateral relationship. Meanwhile, economic, trade, and investment cooperation has grown robustly, and efforts in education, culture, science and technology, tourism, and people-to-people exchange have been actively advanced./.
