Vietnam and Italy join forces to boost semiconductor industry development

The event was co-organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Vietnam, and the Department of European Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at the Forum, Director of the NIC, Vu Quoc Huy, emphasized that the event forms part of Vietnam’s broader efforts to actively integrate and enhance international cooperation in innovation. It aims to support Vietnamese enterprises in accessing cutting-edge technologies, expanding market opportunities, and attracting high-quality investment.

As a co-organizer, NIC hopes to serve as a bridge connecting the innovation ecosystems of Vietnam and Italy. “This will contribute to advancing core and strategic technologies, facilitating knowledge transfer, and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese businesses amid digital transformation and international integration,” Director Huy said.

“Vietnam aspires to become a regional innovation hub. The country is accelerating the development and application of pioneering technologies such as semiconductors, AI, IoT, quantum computing, and green hydrogen to drive digital and green transformation. There is great potential for Vietnam - Italy cooperation in these areas, especially in technology transfer and the development of high-quality human resources, which can bring added value to both economies,” he noted.

Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E. Marco Della Seta, highlighted Italy’s strengths as one of Europe's leading technology centers. The country boasts a diverse ecosystem of research and training institutions, a highly skilled expert workforce, and considerable advantages in core technologies—particularly in semiconductors and AI.

He described the forum as a practical step forward in deepening connections between research institutions, universities, and enterprises from both countries. This will lay the foundation for stronger public-private partnerships, knowledge exchange, and the development of a skilled workforce.

Key discussions at the Forum centered around policies, orientations, and strategies for developing the semiconductor and AI industries, two core technologies that are central to national digital transformation and competitiveness. Delegates also exchanged views on building autonomous technology supply chains to ensure technology security and enhance innovation capacity.

The Forum further facilitated the sharing of experiences in public-private collaboration models for research, training, and commercialization, with a view to establishing innovation centers and high-quality human capital development programs. Business-to-business (B2B) networking sessions were also held to foster effective and sustainable bilateral technology partnerships with regional and global scalability.

Through investment matchmaking and cooperation activities, businesses from both countries are expected to tap into opportunities in technology transfer and talent development. This will lay a solid foundation for national innovation and help Vietnamese enterprises progressively integrate into the global value chain in semiconductors, AI, and other strategic technology sectors.

The Forum also reaffirmed Vietnam’s position as a strategic destination for Italy and Europe’s tech “eagles,” shaping a new chapter in high-tech development and strengthening Vietnam’s role as a vital link in the global innovation landscape.
